Wire chewing

My baby ferret Fae can’t get enough of the electrical wires. Our other ferret Fiefer has no interest in the wires so I am left to assume it is because she is teething.

Ive bought a couple rubber toys of which she is crazy over, she gnaws on them during the day and night.

However, I still catch her chewing at the wires. I scruff her, tell her NO semi-loudly, and present her the toy she is allowed to gnaw on.

I hope this is the right method for training. If anyone could help me out it would greatly be appreciated.

Make sure the rubber is strong enough to withstand the power of their teeth. I would never give rubber to a ferret. If they manage to swallow some rubber, your fuzzy could be looking at costly surgery for intestinal blockage.

Andrew – have you tried bitter apple on the wires? Put something which tastes really awful on the wires and your ferret should stop chewing on them pretty quickly.

That’s all I can think of.
