The Outcast Pt. 2 :P

by Lily
(Ridgefield, Washington)

I've already ferret-proofed my house, but I have questions lingering in my head about ferrets... namely albinos.

~Are the horomone changes in albinos that make their coloration orange temporary?

~Are there any plastics toxic to ferrets (I have rubber ducks WAY too big for a ferret to swallow)?

~Are ferrets considered "theraputic?" (random question lol)

~Will ferrets fall off a hammock 5 ft. from the ground easily? (the hammock i have adjusts to pressure points like memory foam- the stuff tempur-pedics are made of)

~Are ferrets capable of tipping over trash cans twice their height?

~Can ferrets open cabinet doors with plastic tabs inside to keep them closed?

Thanks!

I only want the best for Ghost when he gets home so the li'l guy can live a happy life as my new best friend, thus replacing the laziest cat in the world (or not).
Oh, and I found some pics online :P Enjoy!

Re your questions ...

~Are the horomone changes in albinos that make their coloration orange temporary?

Hmmm, not sure. I do know that unsterilised albino boys have a "nicotine" coloured coat when they mature but once they've had their snip and all their hormones have settled (takes about 2 weeks) then they're left with a beautifully white coat.

~Are there any plastics toxic to ferrets (I have rubber ducks WAY too big for a ferret to swallow)?

Lily, it's not the size of the rubber/plastic object which is a problem. Ferrets love to chew on plastic and if they do, they could swallow large bits of plastic which might not go through their gut. That's what causes the blockages :{ Look on the page about Blockages and you'll see what amazing things the vet has found inside a ferret's gut which caused the problem. Everything from carrots to pantyhose!!!

~Are ferrets considered "theraputic?" (random question lol)

I suffer from chronic osteoarthritis and I can promise you that if I didn't have ferrets in the house to make me laugh, my life would be very miserable indeed ;)

~Will ferrets fall off a hammock 5 ft. from the ground easily? (the hammock i have adjusts to pressure points like memory foam- the stuff tempur-pedics are made of)

Not sure about that question. Some ferrets sleep in their hammocks with their heads and half their bodies hanging down onto the floor of the cage. If you have a ferret who likes sleeping like that, it's possible it could slip out of its hammock and tumbled onto the floor.

~Are ferrets capable of tipping over trash cans twice their height?

I keep our trash can in the trough, out of the ferrets way. Yes, they can come up with all kinds of methods to do things if they feel inclined :D

~Can ferrets open cabinet doors with plastic tabs inside to keep them closed?

With ferrets, where there's a will, there's a way!

Ferrets always seem to do the unexpected so never get complacent if you have a ferret! They really are like naughty toddlers and their owners have to make sure they don't get into trouble! A ferret will certainly keep the owner on their toes - LOL!
