Our first ferret: Duchess Nilla Hudson

by laural posenau
(florida, USA)

My fiance Anthony and I just got our very first ferret.

We named her Duchess Nilla because she seem's to think that she is the ruler ofthe entire house. I had no clue what to expect when we first got Duchess but we have had her for maybe 2 months now and she is the best pet I have ever owned.

I would highly reccomned ferrets as pets if you are willing to put in the time. And i do believe that Duchess will have a partner soon, just don't tell my fiance that ;)

Your site is very helpful! Thank you so much!

I bet your Duchess is thrilled with her new playmates!

Re the food dish, maybe you should get smaller bowls and put less food in them so that they can't throw the food around. Or even get those dishes which hang onto the bars of the cage.

If you put less food in smaller bowls, just be sure to make sure they're not ever empty coz ferrets should have food/water available 24/7.

Duchess new playmates
by: Laural

We just got TWO more ferrets for our baby Duchess to play with. We have another bandit ferret named Mi-Mi and a white and gray male named Saban. Mi-Mi and Saban were raised together and Mi-Mi seems to be a bit older than Duchess and Saban.

Everyone gets along great and I couldn't be a happier ferret mommy!!!! =) but if anyone has tips on how to keep Duchess from digging all the food out of the bowl please please please share!!!!!

Thanks!

... I think your ferret has you well trained :-)

They can be even more regal than cats at times, don't you think? They own you, not the other way around!

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new friend and also that ferret math has struck. Nilla will love her new playmate when you get one for her.
