My mom won't let me get a ferret.

by Jarryd Jaeger
(Vancouver, Canada.)

Hi,
I am 14 and have always wanted a ferret, but my parents won't let me get one.

I told them that I would buy everything for it and take good care of it, but they still say no! I have done a lot of research about ferrets. I've got a hamster that I take care of every day and a shih tzu that we all care for.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me as to what I should do?

Thanks.

Another crazy mum?
by: Catrin

I'm 14 years old and have wanted a ferret for ages but didn't ask until about 3 months ago when my lovely pet rat died. We have a family dog which I do over my share of care for and I did everything for the rats. I have over £700 saved up and when my rat got lonely after his brother died I spent over 3 hours a day with him. Unfortunately he got paralelasis in his back legs but because he was still happy I looked after him loads- I didn't leave him much exept walking my dog and school basically and held him when I did stuff like H/W OR telly and I handfed him/ washed him- until he peacefully passed away.

I have written a 66 page pwerpoint over why we should get ferrets etc.; read Ferrets for Dummies from cover to cover and sisters will also hold them lots. I know I won't stay at home forever so would get some about 3 years old from a rescue and have found pet friendly friends as well as boarding places that will look after them whilst we're away.

I would understand but my parents don't ever have a reason except it would be a waste of my time. I don't understand I love animals and want to be a vet when I'm older.

What could I do to persuade them...?

Me too
by: Firedragonflame

I'm 10 and my mom won't get me a ferret. She said if I did a bunch of unreasonable things daily I could maybe get a ferret when I'm 12. But first we would get a dog.

Please Please Please help - I will be glad for anything - thanks in advance!

My mom won't let me get a pet ferret
by: AnonymousI

I am 9 and my mom and dad won't let me get a pet ferret. They say I already have too many pets.

I only have 2guinea pigs,2 hamsters, 2 snakes, 1 rabbit, 1 rat and a dog. What harm would a ferret do?

I don't get it. I've wanted one for over a year. How do I beg? Please respond.

Thanks for your comment. I have done a lot of research about ferrets and know they are a good pet for me. As for convincing my parents....that will still be quite the challenge.

Parents won't allow a ferret
by: Bonnie

You're parents have the advantage of being older and wiser. I know that is not what you want to hear. Unfortunately, ferrets require so much more than just feeding, watering and cleaning their cage. They require several hours outside of their cage for supervised play time. Are you willing to give up four hours every day to watch and play with your ferret, and keep it safe from harm?

Ferrets get a variety of serious illnesses through their life time. These illnesses require expensive veterinary care and sometimes around the clock medications. Do you have a good paying after school job to pay for these things? Ferrets can live about 8 years on average. What will you do with your ferret when you get out of high school? Remember, giving an animal away when they become inconvenient should never be an option.

These are just a few things you really need to think long and hard about. If you think you have this under control, start proving to your parents that you will be a responsible ferret owner. Clean up and feed your pets every day without being told. Make sure you spend time playing with them also, even if it means not going out to hang out with your friends.

If your parents see that you are super committed to being a responsible pet owner, they might just change their minds.
Good luck.
