Little Gizmo

I got Gizmo when I was 20. He’s going on 6 years old now and still he acts like he’s a two year old, into everything, tipping everything over and destroying everything in his path.

I get mad sometimes and I don’t know what to do but he’s just that way. I remember I used to be like that at one time and I think that’s why I love him so much.

He’s not to cuddly; he does his own thing; he likes to play every once in a while but mostly he drags and hides stuff, especially shoes, and runs around. I had him litter trained for a week then he just stopped using the box. I gave up and started picking it up. I personally think getting him was one of the better things I have ever done.

I know he doesn’t have to much time left but it’s been a blast. He’s gone fishing, walking, moved with me, been there through break-ups and new jobs, always happy to do anything and get into everything.

They need a immense ammount of attention and if you don’t give it to them, they find a way to get it. They are brilliant! Mine has figured out how to open doors with handles so I had to recently change to knobs. THEY HATE BATHS … LOL. I usually throw him in twice a week when I take a shower and blow dry him off when I’m doing my hair. I feel bad because I’ve been working so much lately and I haven’t been able to spend as much time as I want with him, so he’s been free range in my room and I clean up when I get back.

May 05, 2011 Shower?
by: Anonymous

Gizmo seems to get a lot of attention! The only thing that worries me is the shower thing. Ferrets shouldn’t be bathed more than once every month or two. Baths make my ferret smell worse, because it takes away the natural oils in their fur. The shower might be too hot, and ferrets can’t stand a lot of heat. The blow dryer would be way too hot too! But it’s all in good intention, and I’m glad you love your ferret as much as you do 🙂
