Ferret Vets in the USA

(Ferret Vets in the USA – I’m always happy to add sites which have been recommended by other ferret owners so if you have a good ferret vet who is not listed here, please let me know and I’ll put the details on this page … I reckon it’s great to have a list of vets we know are good so that if our ferrets ever get sick, we’ll feel comfortable in the knowledge that our pets will get the best treatment possible from a vet who knows what he’s doing!)

If you are after a holistic vet, please check out the clinics listed on the Holistic Ferret Vets in the USA page.

There is also a hospice for sick ferrets called Lap of Love with veterinarians all around the States, so if you need to help your ferret gently over to the Rainbow Bridge, you can check if there is a vet on their page.

DISCLAIMER: The vets listed have either been recommended or have mentioned that they treat ferrets on their website. However I obviously have no firsthand knowledge of how experienced any of the vets are with ferrets.

It is up to you to make sure that you are happy with the treatment your ferret is getting from your vet. If you have any doubts at all, please think about getting a second opinion so that you know that your pet is getting the best possible treatment available.

  1. Hi, I have a precious lil female career named Egypt. I’ve read there not to eat candy but some how I she got into the refrigerator and got into a bag of candy corn… Will she be OK.. She is wanting to only eat candy when my kids she isn’t eating her food much she ni bbls here and there I’m worried

  2. Hi Shaleisa – good to see you here 🙂
I mentioned on the Furquin’s Ferrets page that I was worried the corn might be blocking Egypt’s gut so take a look at my page about Blockages and see if she’s showing any of the symptoms there …

    https://www.all-about-ferrets.com/blockages-in-ferrets.html

What you could do is get some cat laxative and get Egypt to lick some of that to see if it will remove anything. Another good thing which I was told about but have not personally tried is pure pumpkin but it has to be PURE pumpkin …

    https://www.all-about-ferrets.com/the-wonders-of-canned-pure-pumpkin.html

“I called a vet, and explained the situation (in hopes of working out a payment plan, as I suspected a blockage). They advised canned pure pumpkin every four hours for 1-2 days.”
You could try that on Egypt to see if it will move the corn candy, if that is what is indeed troubling her!
Was she eating well before the candy episode, do you know? Does her poop look different – greenish, skinny, not normal? Maybe she’s lost her appetite because of a different reason?
I hope what I suggested will help Egypt to clean out her gut but Shaleisa, if you think she’s getting worse, please take her to a (ferret) vet to get checked out. Believe me, we almost lost Snoopy because of that wretched olive pit so I do know first hand how dangerous a blockage can be to a ferret!
Time is of essence so if you see she is getting worse – lethargic, not eating at all, losing weight – then please get her to a vet asap! She’s just such a beautiful little ferret that you don’t want to chance her getting ill and dying 🙁
Big hugs to Egypt from her new buddies down under 😀
    Good luck!

  3. I have a ferret I adopted he has a lump behind his ear, I have taken him to the vet, he says no ear mites that he could see, I know they have had ear mites, specialist treated them. It looks as if there’s a little hole and it drains, I want to know what it is what do I demand of my vet. Thank you Darla

  4. Oh Darla, I really don’t know what you should say to your vet. My advice is to take your ferret to another vet and get a 2nd opinion. Do you know of another good ferret vet near to where you live?
I’m afraid I have no idea what the little hole could be so I reckon it’d be a good idea to see another vet.
Hope you get to the bottom of this for your ferret’s sake :/
Hugs to your little man from his new friends down under 🙂
    Cheers

  5. Hi, I’m worried. My Ferret named “Smokey” and he is very sick. He mostly everyday eats and plays before, then a few months later he isn’t eating or playing now. He is very tired, He fell over, he’s weak, he doesn’t drink or eat much, he doesn’t poop or pee really even, and he threw up. My family thinks he’s dying. I’m very very worried for him. Is he gonna be fine?

  6. Chelsey, you HAVE to take Smokey to a (ferret) vet to get checked! I cannot help you as I’m not a vet and I live in Australia so can’t assist you in any way! It might be that he has a disease like insulinoma, or adrenal problems, or something else and the vet will be able to know what’s wrong and put him on medication.
Ferrets go downhill so quickly and if he’s been sick for a few months then it might be too late to help him. He should have been taken to the vet as soon as he stopped eating and drinking!
Get some electrolytes and put that in his water so that he gets some nourishment. Get some Carnivore Care and tempt him to eat it, so that it helps him to improve. Get a bottle of Astaxanthin (I recommend BioAstin Hawaiian 12mg) and prick a hole in the softgel so you can squeeze the liquid into the Carnivore Care EVERY DAY so that he gets some antioxidants into his system.

I hope to God he’ll pick up with that but you MUST take him to a vet and get him fixed up ASAP!!
